Even though this basic pizza dough recipe does take longer to proof than the Easiest Bread Machine Pizza Dough recipe, it is still quite simple to make. Plus it is delicious and delectable too!
First, you will want to gather all your ingredients together. Then, you’ll want to place the flour, yeast, and salt in your food processor.
You will want a reliable food processor that will be able to handle the strength of the wet dough. I use a Kitchen Aid food processor that our family has had for many years. It is heavy duty and I have found it to be very reliable when making this basic pizza dough recipe.
Unfortunately they do not make my specific model anymore. No matter which brand food processor you use, you’ll definitely want one that can handle pizza dough!
After putting the dry ingredients in the processor, you’ll want to put on the lid, turn on the machine and slowly pour the olive oil through the feed tube. With the machine running, you’ll want to slowly pour the lukewarm water through the feed tube. The basic pizza dough will begin to form in the processor, but you need to let it process for 2 more minutes and it should form a slightly sticky and rough ball like the one below.
Once you process the basic pizza dough for 2 minutes, take it out of the processor and divide it into three separate sections. Using a bench scraper to separate the dough makes it a lot easier.
You will want to weigh each piece of dough to make sure weighs as close to 8 ounces as possible.
Once you have all three pieces of your basic pizza dough as close to 8 ounces as possible, you will want to make them into dough balls. (Not sure how to form a dough ball? Check out my post called How To Make Perfect Pizza Dough Balls.)
Once they have been made into dough balls, place each one in a separate glass bowl covered in plastic wrap. Make sure to allow the dough to rest at room temperature for 30 minutes. Then place them in the refrigerator to proof for 12-24 hours.
After your basic pizza dough has risen, you are ready to make some delicious pizza pies!
